About

Gibraltar is the culmination of a decade of work and friendship between Kendall Miller and Jay Cincotta.

When we first met, late in the 20th century, Kendall was system architect designing enterprise infrastructure for John Deere Information Systems and Jay was a principal engineer and project manager for a software consulting company named RWD Technologies.  Together we led multiple teams that built various infrastructure components supporting Deere’s global dealership network.  Among these was a high-performance Central Logging & Alert Service that provided a common application monitoring framework for the many custom applications and components  running in Deere’s data center and throughout its network.

When Jay left RWD to found eSymmetrix in 2000 Kendall soon joined and together we shared the most intense 9 months of our work lives as we took a health benefits administrating start-up Benelogic from napkin sketch to launch managing employee benefits for thousands of employees and dozens of different insurance plans each with unique business rules and transmission data formats.  During that time we not only formed and led the teams that built all the line of business applications; we also designed and implemented the data center.  As you might imagine, creating robust logging and monitoring infrastructure was crucial to pulling this off.

In the subsequent years, eSymmetrix bought the IP for the logging system we built for Deere, extended it and incorporated it as a standard piece of infrastructure on eSymmetrix projects.  Along the way we’ve also written lots of other infrastructure and learned a few things that have helped our teams deliver high quality results even on aggressive schedules and evolving requirements.

We know what it’s like building custom software. You don’t always have the time you’d like to create robust infrastructure to support your products after launch. We’ve been there.  And whether or not you use Gibraltar (of course, you really should try it!), we hope that the ideas on this blog make some small contribution to help your projects go smoother and put a smile on your customers faces.

Please feel free to give us a call or send an email with any questions. We love talking about this stuff!
